Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (París, 1796-1875). Figura central en la evolución de la pintura de paisaje francés del siglo XIX, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot nació en el seno de una familia de comerciantes y en su juventud se inició en el oficio de pañero. Sólo a partir de 1822 recibió el permiso paterno y el apoyo financiero familiar para comenzar su carrera de pintor. Ingresó en el taller de Achille-Etna Michallon, que le instruyó en la doctrina neoclásica y le aconsejó que comenzase a pintar al aire libre.
